Hey! I’m Umey & here’s my story; Artsy-Craftsy journey of an island girl 🇲🇻

It’s been barely 2 years since I started this exploring artsy-craftsy journey of creating with different mediums and methods. I started creating at home during the 2020 lockdown in Malaysia. When the full lockdown restrictions were lifted, I decided to take classes & workshops in art studios on jewelry making, silversmithing, resin art, pottery & candle making, etc.

The concept of U M E Y Z was driven by a healing journey & a curiosity about how creativity (especially creating with hands) and nature can help mental health and well-being. At the end of 2019, despite having an amazing year abroad, I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Anxiety. In the midst of a global pandemic being out in nature or traveling back to the Maldives wasn’t much of an option but I found myself getting my creative inspiration from nature & things that resonates Maldives. 

U M E Y Z will continue to be a journey to support my mental health by designing and creating jewelry & other lifestyle products but more importantly, it will be a tool for raising mental health awareness whether it’s through our product designs or our efforts to educate & aware.
